Wk 4 — Art Activity — Architecture & Urban Planning

  1. Explain your design. What choices did you make? What issues and needs did you consider? How did you reach your solutions?
The way I designed the campus is by making it as simple as possible. Because social distancing is an issue that needs to be considered, I did not add any unnecessary buildings. For example, instead of having gift shops, items can be purchased online. This can increase social distancing. I made sure that there is a lot of open space throughout the campus because air circulation is important. I also made sure that popular areas were not close to each other so it can prevent large crowds.
  2. How does your design address Education in the Internet Century?
A lot of the activities that are usually done in person can now be done online. For example, purchasing books or supplies from the school website. Instead of always going to the library to borrow books, borrow it online and have it sent to you. A lot of things can be accessed and done on the internet. It does not require a person to walk or travel far distances.
  3. How does your design address Education in the Age of Coronavirus?
My design is mainly designed for social distancing. There are minimal indoor hallways because it is important to have open-air circulation. The way I layout the builds is to make everything more convenient. Instead of always having to walk across campus, I made public buildings and popular areas in the center of the campus and dorms around the perimeter. People don’t have to walk around the entire campus to get to places, and this can reduce the amount of interaction/spread of germs.
