  1. How did your project differ from the original vision?
    My final project is different from the original by tracing it with calligraphy ink. The thickness and thinness on each line give the artwork more texture.
  2. Do you think your project is a success? Why or why not?
    I believe my project is a success. Although there are a few mistakes, I like how it looks, and I’ve tried my best.
  3. Do you think your project got weaker due to compromises you had to make to complete it? Or stronger due to improvements as you executed the work and found new ideas? Or both? Please describe!
    I think it got weaker because artists usually freehand Chinese calligraphy. I was able to freehand some of the Chinese words, but I had to trace the flower and fish. It is difficult to make a perfect artwork on one try. I also think it got stronger because I have practice multiple times. From the beginning, I did not have control over the brush. Eventually, I was able to control the brush a little better.
  4. What ideas, concepts, or artistic abilities were you trying to explore in this project? Did you achieve your goals? Do you think your piece communicates what you wanted it to?
    I was trying to learn how to control a brush better and freehand a few Chinese characters. I was able to get better control of the brush. I still struggle with freehanding some Chinese characters. There are many types of art and Chinese calligraphy is one of them. It is really not common, so I want to share a different style of art from Chinese culture.
  5. What would you do differently if you did this project again?
    I would have tried more Chinese characters that have different levels of difficulty. Before tracing it, I would practice controlling the brush more. I would also add some colors to the fish and the flower.
