At the beginning of this semester, I thought art was just painting, drawing, and sculpting. Art was simply an activity that anyone can do and enjoy. Growing up, I was never exposed to a wide variety of art. It has made my perspective on art very limited. As a child, I would go to an art class every week. I would simply draw a picture and stop for the day. It has not made me think that art could have been something more. It could have been that I just never had enough interest or the patients to appreciate/evaluate each piece of art I have done. My idea of art changed a little after being in Art 110 for a semester. Art is still an activity that people can easily start and enjoy. I no longer think it is just a simple activity just as painting or drawing. Art is a form of expression that requires technique and skills. Throughout this semester, I have learned about many different types of art techniques and different artists. Interacting with other students, they have shared different types of art form different period and culture. I have also learned to appreciate art more and understand art more. I am studying in health care administration. In this field, administrators are responsible to manage the healthcare system in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and many other places. Their job to make sure that patients are receiving the best care. My career goal is to help people in need. Although I am not studying to be in the front line, I still want to help people in diverse ways. When managing healthcare systems, administrators are always planning and preparing models. Art can become really helpful and allow administrators create presentable diagrams and models. Hospitals and medical centers can be a scary place for younger patients. Art can also help create more comfortable environments for younger patients. I find art as a relaxing activity. I think it can help me relax and distress during tough moments. It is an excellent way to express feelings and share a message. Art can always be a hobby that I can do whenever I have time. It will help my mind always stay active and improve my creativity. Being able to explore different types of activities and creating art works can give a feeling of competence. Art matters a lot to the world. If art, artist, and anything relating to art vanishes, the planet earth will start vanishing too. Everyone is surrounded by art everywhere. People do not realize that the simplest things are made with art. For example, the bedsheets on my bed. It takes artists to design the patterns and tailors to know what shape to make the bedsheets in. There are many jobs that need art. (fashion designers, architects, constructors, and many more) Without art, I believe people will start struggling to survive because it takes art and creativity to produce necessities we use in everyday life. I agree with the past slogan of the National Endowment for Arts, “a great nation deserves great art,” that everyplace deserves great art. Many things have a connection with art. Every country deserves to have their own way to express and use art. Art 110 has given me many opportunities to explore different types of art. I am glad that I was able to not only explore the different types of art, but I was also able to learn about some artist. It has taught me that art does not have to be used strictly in painting and drawing, but it can also be used in health care administration. Art has shown the importance of expressing feelings and being able to share stories in a creative way. I was most grateful that art was able to help me find inner peace during tough and stressful moments.
